Fortieth session. Former military official Juan Nolberto Rivero Lazo continued his testimony.
The hearing began more than 15 minutes late since doctors from the Attorney General Office’s Institute of Legal Medicine gave Alberto Fujimori a medical exam. Fujimori is clinically stable, but suffers from water retention in his feet.
The Special Criminal Court, presided over by Judge César San Martín, ordered the medical exam. When Rivero continued his testimony, he stated:
1. That despite being head of the Army Intelligence Directorate (DINTE), he was never informed by the Army Intelligence Service (SIE) — which was under his command — that supposed SIE military officials had committed the murders.
2. As in the last session, he reiterated that 20 officials, including Santiago Martin Rivas and Carlos Pichilingüe, were transferred to the National Intelligence Service (SIN).
3. He continued testifying that he did not remember many things that had happened while he was head of the DINTE.
In the next session, journalist Umberto Jara will testify.
